Welcome To "Wayward Wind"

When I first learned about the unpleasant experiences being foisted upon small town and rural residents, as a result of the proximity of industrial wind turbines, I was shocked. I was also taken back by the hostility being expressed toward them by others, and by the insensitivity expressed toward them by so many people in positions of power and responsibility.

As an in-town resident, I'm not directly affected by an industrial wind tubine facility. However, I cannot help but feel sympathy for my rural "brothers and sisters".

In my own pursuit to understand more about the affects of industrial wind turbines, I've delved into a number of issues and factors, and have arrived at certain conclusions and impressions along the way. I've complied these observations into "Wayward Wind", which serves as my personal commentary on the issue.

I want to make it clear that I have no technical credentials in science. I'm just hoping to see an increased understanding of the problems of industrial wind turbines and a reduction in their negative impacts.

I've organized my commentaries into several pages .. to be accessed through the menu to the left. In a nut-shell, I believe that modern industrial wind turbines cause substantial levels of atmospheric low frequency sound and infrasound to be produced, which are incompatible with human habitation at substantial distances beyond current setbacks. I believe that only by better understanding the effects of standing-waves and resonant-amplification of sound (and the causative nature of high volumes of interacting air pressure variants) can we properly protect our citizens.

The Noise Impact Assessment Report Waubra Wind Farm (July 2010) is a hundred and sixty four page report by Doctor Robert Thorne, a highly qualified expert in acoustical science, health science and health engineering. In his report he soundly links the causative relationship between industrial wind turbines and adverse health effects. His detailed examination, of the harmful infrasound generated by the IWT's abnormal impacts on wind's normal characteristics, clearly proves the detrimental effects of industrial wind turbines.

The following two documents provide a firm indication of the mechanism by which the horizontal vortex of a wind turbine actually produces infrasound, a better understanding of how wind turbines generate their substantial physiological impacts on people, and the means by which these mechanisms' impacts can be tracked and measured.

Scientific documentation of the formation of infrasound by tornado-like storm vortices and by the vortices of actual tornados is available at …
"Infrasound Emitted By Tornado-Like Vortices" - by D. A. Schecter, M. E. Nicholls, etc.
"The spiral infrasound of a tornado-like vortex is created by various means ... (Pg. 22)"

The means by which in-field detection and measurement can be initiated is referenced at ...
"Mobile Infrasound Array" - by L. Root, A. Hills. etc. (University of Massachusetts, Amherst)
"The intrinsic flexibility of the array setup will allow for focused studies of other sources of infrasound ... (Conclusions)"

More and more light continues to be shone on the corporate and political deceptions involving industrial wind turbines and their promotion.

The phenomenon know as Clear Air Turbulence has been well known for decades as a problem for high altitude jet flight. Years ago, a system for detecting locations of "CAT" was devised incorporating the triangulation of infrasound given off by areas of this high-altitude turbulence.

It is widely known that the doppler-radar of weather detection facilities receive confusing "storm images" from installations of active industrial wind turbines. Interestingly, a new "CAT" detection system is presently under development, utilizing computer-analysed doppler-radar. It turns out that what the weather detection facilities are reading, are localized "CAT" (Clear Air Turbulence) and "VT" (Vortex Turbulence) complexes of disrupted air pressure produced by the giant turbines. These localized "clear air turbulence storms" involve large air pressure variants which in turn produce high volumes of infrasound.

Just as the "vortex turbulence" produced behind jet-liners in flight precludes other planes flying behind them and just as "clear air turbulence" is a serious danger to aircrafts, so do these same effects produced by industrial wind turbines preclude them from being built close to one-another.

The impacts of the turbines' Clear Air Turbulence, Vortex Turbulence and their generated infrasound .. on the operational and physical integrity of the turbine structures is considered crucial in the locating of the turbines relative to each other. However, these same impacts have been considered as inconsequential to the physiological and psychological welfare of people living in the vicinity of the turbines.

I believe that a simple, clear and distinctive descriptive label for this process will help to "spread the word". So, I'm coining the term "Clear Air Turbulence Vortex Infrasound Effect" and its acronym "CATVIE" to describe the process by which large industrial wind turbines produce infrasound.

All kinds of evasive and unethical ploys have been used by the proponents of industrial wind turbines .. from applying only audible "a-filtered decibel" standards .. to using "time-averaged" decibel measurements as opposed to "cyclical real-time" decibel measurements .. to ignoring medical research on the impacts of infrasound .. to ridiculing victims as "NIMBYS" .. to enacting undemocratic legislation that takes away peoples' rights to protect themselves.
