Daisy Lake Trip - Summer 2010

Jurnee with a Creek Chub caught offshore.

The last day was spent mostly swimming .. this time off our campsite’s sloping rocks.

We paddled up to Daisy Lake's main island, which hosted two campsites. Both were unoccupied. There we swam offshore for about an hour. A red squirrel momma greeted us with a ‘welcoming’ chirp or two .. or three. Our dog 'Mutt' made sure she stayed ‘airborn’.

The squirrel had large nipples on her belly .. feeding a young brood somewhere close, by no doubt.

This large saw blade was located at the southmost island campsite.

We headed back to our campsite, packed up and returned to Magnetawan Lake under near-still conditions and sunny skies.

Here's looking south-east back down to Daisy Lake from the landing of the portage to ‘Pond’ Lake.

We met a pair of ladies starting a 10 day trip to Burntroot Lake and back, with their cat. It wasn’t his first trip either .. good Kitty!

We also stopped and chatted with two men from Ohio. They were on their way to Big Trout Lake for a week. My kids conversed for over twenty minutes with them about "iCarly/SpongeBob/Suite Life on Deck/Phineas and Ferb/etc.". It was hilarious. The men were well versed in Nickelodeon, Disney, etc. shows, as one had kids of his own. From ‘Pond’ Lake, we navigated the little channel (Petawawa River) back to Hambone Lake. It still had enough water to navigate the narrow passage.

A picturesque shoreline alond the way.

Once back on Magnetawan Lake, we spooked this blue heron, which had been hunting for its supper from a shoreline log.

Jurnee took this shot with her A450 camera. It's looking south-west down Magnetawan Lake, as the sun nears the horizon.

We packed up and left the lake by 9 pm. Two goshawks flew right by the car at low light on the drive out before the turnoff to Tim Lake. We stopped in Huntsville for supper at McDonalds. While crossing the park on Highway 60, we watched a young fox by Cache Lake for a few seconds before it disappeared in the bush. I arrived back in Ottawa by 2:30 am with two sleeping kids and the dog.
