Big Crow Re-supply Trip - Sept. 16th Part 5 Swedish Pimple told Laurie and I there was a natural spring beside the cabin. I was very interested to see it and besides, we needed to fill our water containers. Markus and Joan came with us as well. We came up to the cabin and a few motorboats are at the landing. Three older fellows are on the shore. I asked them if they mind we landed and got some water. They were very friendly and welcomed us ashore. The natural spring is about 130feet (40m) left or southeast down a trail along the waters edge. A box is made with a lid that covers the spring. The area is darkening with cedars. Open the lid to find a basin of water at arm’s length down. A slight current of water can be seen flowing thru it. At first we were skeptical about the quality of water. I tasted the water. The water was cold and had no taste at all. Sweet. We all filled our water bottles. On the way back we stopped and talked some more with the older fellows. They were great, letting us look inside the cabin. They had it rented for a week. They used the cart trails to haul their gear. A little after 6, we all head back to camp. On our way back, we stopped for some more firewood near our camp. The natural spring At the cabin with the nice fellows Canoe loaded up with firewood The sun was making a beautiful sunset tonight. Laurie took some pictures as I prepared to make supper. I’m cooking again. Sal .. still fishing as the sun falls. Sunset on Big Crow Lake on Saturday night Others were making supper as well. Sal came back from fishing once again. He thru back some small trout in the morning and as it turned out, he should have kept them! He did not get lucky tonight. No fish to eat. I just boiled up some simple Sidekick spaghetti. We had a "Guncho" fire going (sorry Guncho) and we enjoyed our new company, Markus and Joan. Laurie handed out bake goods, chocolate brownies and banana bread. Yum.yum. At 9:00 pm we all had a toast to Cls that could not make it for this trip. Algonquin stories went on for hours as people looked for clean air to breathe from the sometimes smoky fire. We had so many laughs. It does not get any better than that night. I loved it. Laurie and Joan where sitting together, giggling up a storm. The gang and Joan and Laurie Later on that night, I made some Jiffy Pop popcorn for everyone. We all talked on how Algonquin Adventures got us together. I was fortunate enough to meet people on the White Partridge Express trip in May, and now this trip. I was feeling so fortunate to be with everyone that night. One by one, guys were going to bed. By 1:30am Markus, Joan, Laurie and myself decided to turn in. The night was warmer than Friday night. No dew to speak of. All was quite with no wind. The sleeping bag never felt so cozy. End of Part 5 - Mike and Laurie Burns |
