Les Dempsey (aka Lesta) has posted his fourteen minute video entitled Why I go Solo. It's his attempt to explain why he likes to go on solo camping trips. He explores some of the experiences and deep thoughts, that can only happen when one goes solo into Algonquin Park's backcountry.

He describes his personal realm of solo experiences, by way of contemplative lakeside narration. While it has a slowed down change of pace, it does ring true to us who have experienced the solitude of Algonquin's backcountry one-on-one. At the same time, he effectively shares his insight with those who haven't yet gone solo.

'Neeland' has posted a photo trip-log of his Western Uplands 2nd Loop Oct 8-11, 2013 solo hike. As before, his high definition photos and descriptive captions provide an excellent account of his trip.

.."A lot of the trail skirts beaver ponds and dams .. and crosses a number of bridges in varying states of repair .. I saw amazing northern lights and a meteor that streaked right across the lake .. Thunder Lake, probably the most beautiful spot on the hike .. met a couple who were lost, and walked with them to the trailhead .."

Rich VanDerd has posted his trip-log of his solo hiking trip he recently completed .. Algonquin Park Western Uplands 3 day solo hike - Third loop via Rain Lake - May 31 to June 2, 2013.

.."Stutter Lake was the next body of water that I encountered, and I noticed a large, pale object on the shore near the other end. Looking at my map, I realized that this lake is well off any canoeing routes and I was curious about it. After hiking along side for a bit, I saw that this was a large, bleached tree trunk that had fallen there many years prior. Soon after, I stumbled upon a moose skull propped up against a tree, no doubt placed there by another hiker."

Andy Wojewodka has submitted his trip-log of a canoe trip he recently took with friends .. a Modified Figure 8 loop out of Access #3 - July 20 - 27, 2013. Of special interst is the fact that their trip intersected with that of Martin Garster (see trip-log immediately below).

.."Rounding a bend after the 450 portage, we were greeted with a Cow and baby moose. This was the first yearling that I've ever seen which made it all the more special. Our problem was that the mother was on one side of the river and the baby on the other. We certainly didn't want to float down between them, particularly with it being so close."

MartinG has submitted a photo-packed trip-log of the nine-day solo canoe trip he recently completed .. Magnetawan - McManus on the Pet and Little Mad

" I watched one cell hammer down on Big Crow to my left. Another passed over Catfish Lake complete with bolts of lightning flashing inside. Then one approached me. It was like nothing I have ever seen. You could hear it, like a freight train, coming from miles away. Next you could feel the winds ahead of the storm. Finally, I watched as sheets of rain marched over the hills and across the lake before hitting my site. "

Rob Howes has added a trip report to his blog, of a short solo trip he took to Islet Lake from Access 4 on Labour Day of 2012 .. 2 Nights On Islet.

.. "It felt so good to get back to Algonquin that I triple carried this port, going back one last time for the paddles and my shoulder bag, just because I was enjoying the walk in the woods and once again breathing fresh clean air and re-acquainting myself with the wonders that surrounded me. The paddle across Hot Lake is not really long at all. You just get settled and it is time to get back out."
