Look What I Caught - Lake Trout - 2007

During the last week of August we were running stacked lines on the down rigger on Opeongo. I got a strike and started reeling, When the fish came up beside the boat it had barrel rolled through the other line and it was all tangled. I had to do some hand over hand on the second line and it was clear that there was a fish on that one too. My 3 year old daughter "Flower Girl" gets the assist since it was her rod that had the second fish. One fish was released but the other one was badly hooked so it was kept for dinner. ... We went on a camping trip to Opeongo and on August 28 I had some pretty good luck. While my dad was busy getting down riggers set up I caught this beauty on a jig from the bow of the boat. At first my Dad thought I was snagged on the down rigger because my rod was bent so much. My lure wasn't very deep and my dad was surprised that anybody could catch a fish like that in such deep water (about 100ft) at the end of August. We caught some other fish that we let go but we had this fish for dinner and it was delicious ... for Victor Elford age 6 of the London ON Area.

Caught, shared with a neighboring campsite, and enjoyed ourselves. It was caught in Little Doe Lake on a Sutton spoon using a Seth Green rig, which I have used successfully for twenty years in Algonquin Park. The fish was in 30 feet of water the second week of August and weighed 6 pounds, 26 inches. Matthew the paddler, and CJ the net man, both grandsons on their third trip to the Park ... Dave Hoselton.
