Impact Committee

Chaired by Derek Specht. Includes volunteer members Dale Merkley, Robert Withnell and Neil Miller.

Program 1.1 - Educate backcountry recreationalists about low-impact practices.
Project 1.1.1 - Maintain a Low-impact Practices website section with guidelines and etiquette.
Project 1.1.2 - Produce and distribute pocket-sized low-impact guides to backcountry recreationalists.

Program 2.1 - Educate backcountry recreationalists about reducing their impact on the environment.
Project 2.1.1 - Maintain a backcountry-related environmental reference section on our website.
Project 2.1.2 - Produce and distribute pocket-sized environmental-awareness guides to backcountry recreationalists.


Upkeep Committee

Chaired by Mark Rubino, Sean Rowley and Jeffrey McMurtrie. Includes up to three volunteer members.

Program 1.2 - Encourage backcountry recreationalists to effectively report maintenance needs and improper practices.
Project 1.2.1 - Maintain a report guide reference section on our website.
Project 1.2.2 - Pursue a system of campsite numbering with the park staff.

Program 1.3 - Help maintain and repair campsites, boardwalks, docks and other backcountry facilities. (post-registration activity)
Project 1.3.1 - Establish and conduct a volunteer labour program , co-ordinated under park management.


Publications Committee

Chaired by Mark Rubino. Includes up to three volunteer members.

The majority of content generated by other committees, then produced into printed form by this committee.


Website Committee

Chaired by Barry Bridgeford. Includes Dave Gillen and up to one more volunteer member.

The majority of content generated by other committees, then forwarded for layout, design and online posting.


Forest Committee

Chaired by Barry Bridgeford. Includes up to three volunteer members.

Program 3.1 - Promote the "Recommendations of the OPB" in "Lightening the Ecological Footprint of Logging".
Project 3.1.1 - Persistent communication to provincial politicians indicating support for the OPB's recommendations.
Project 3.1.2 - Express support for the OPB's recommendations by "letters to the editor" and by letters directly to reporters.
Project 3.1.3 - Solicit similar communications of support for the OPB's recommendations from acquaintances and the general public.
Project 3.1.4 - Maintain an overview and respond to Algonquin Forestry Authority's planning and operational activities.


Funding Committee

Chaired by Mark Steele and Alex Perovic. Includes Tom Yates and up to one more volunteer member.

This committee will pursue, pre-registration forum-member donations; as well as post-registration private and corporate donations, website advertiser fees and grants .. in order to cover costs associated with formation, registration, post-registration operations and individual projects.


Watchdog Committee

Chaired by Derek Specht. Includes Mike Lindsay and up to two other volunteer members.

Program 4.1 - Advise membership and public of potential and developing influences and issues that may impact on backcountry recreational activities.
Project 4.1.1 - Maintain a website section, of Algonquin news developments that may impact on backcountry recreational activities.
Project 4.1.2 - After conferring with the Executive Committee over potential issues that may impact on backcountry recreational activities, advise membership by a website "Watchdog" section with formal commentaries and reports.


Action Committee

Chaired by at least one of the Steering Committee. And occupied by up to three volunteer members.

Program 4.2 - Lobby against influences which can impact negatively on the backcountry of Algonquin Park.
Project 4.2.1 - Issue media releases and organize letter-writing campaigns.

Program 4.3 - Organize membership activities. (post-registration activity)
Project 4.3.1 - Contact and co-ordinate members in designated operational activities in the field.
